Frequently Asked Questions

Real answers to common questions about riding with Road Runner Transportation.

Whether you’re heading to the airport, a medical appointment, the trail, or somewhere farther from home, you’ll find practical information below about reservations, payments, scheduling, and what to expect when you ride with us.

Airport Transportation

I’m flying in. Where do I meet Road Runner at the airport?

Airport regulations generally do not allow us to park and wait at the terminal doors. Road Runner will be waiting in the airport’s cell phone lot before your scheduled arrival.

After your flight arrives, collect your luggage and make your way outside. Please call or text us once you are outside and ready for pickup. We’ll leave the cell phone lot and come around to meet you.

When you call or text, it’s helpful to tell us which door, sign, airline marker, or other easy-to-see landmark you’re standing near so we can find you quickly.

My flight is delayed. Will I be charged for the additional wait time?

Flight delays happen, and we understand they’re outside your control. Please call or text us as soon as you know your arrival time has changed.

Your reservation is based on your originally scheduled pickup time. Wait time will be charged at 50¢ per minute for any time beyond the originally scheduled pickup time.

If my flight is significantly delayed, will you still be able to pick me up?

We will make every reasonable effort to accommodate a delayed arrival. However, significant changes to your arrival time or date may conflict with other scheduled transportation.

Because other customers may already have reserved transportation, we cannot guarantee that we can wait indefinitely or accommodate a substantially different pickup time or date. Please call or text us as soon as you become aware of a significant delay or schedule change.

Can you pick me up for an early-morning or late-night flight?

Yes. Road Runner’s regular hours are 7:00 AM–7:00 PM daily, but transportation outside those hours is available 24/7 by advance reservation.

Early-morning departures and late-night arrivals must be arranged in advance so we can reserve the time for you.

How far in advance should I reserve airport transportation?

We recommend reserving as soon as your travel plans are confirmed, particularly for early-morning, late-night, weekend, and holiday travel.

Same-day airport transportation may occasionally be available, but advance reservations give us the best opportunity to accommodate your requested pickup time. Your reservation is not confirmed until payment has been received.

What time should I schedule my pickup when traveling to the airport?

When making your reservation, please provide your airport, airline, flight number, and scheduled departure time.

When choosing your pickup time, allow enough time for the drive plus unexpected delays along the way, such as traffic, weather, construction, or an unplanned stop. You should also allow the time recommended by your airline for check-in, baggage, and security.

It’s always better to arrive a little early than to make the trip stressful by cutting the schedule too close.

Local & Long-Distance Transportation

How far will Road Runner take me?

Road Runner provides local and long-distance transportation to or from Northern New Hampshire and the North Country, including trips throughout New England and beyond.

For especially long trips, driver and passenger safety come first. An overnight stay may be built into the trip when necessary to avoid driver fatigue. Any related cost will be included in your quoted price.

Can I call Road Runner for a same-day ride?

Yes. Same-day ride requests are always welcome, and we’ll accommodate them whenever our schedule allows.

Because we also have advance reservations, availability isn’t always guaranteed. Text or call us as early as possible to give us the best chance of fitting your ride in.

Can I reserve a ride in advance?

Absolutely. Advance reservations are encouraged, especially for long-distance trips, appointments, or transportation needed at a specific time.

Once your ride is reserved and payment is received, that time is set aside specifically for your transportation.

Will you wait for me and bring me back?

Yes. When transportation includes a return trip, it is a core value at Road Runner to remain on-site and wait for our rider. Wait time is charged as part of that service.

We believe that if we commit to your return transportation, we should be there when you’re ready to go. If we’re asked to leave and take other rides while you’re at your appointment or stop, we can no longer guarantee when—or if—we’ll be available for your return.

Leaving a rider without guaranteed return transportation simply isn’t how we operate.

Can someone else arrange and pay for my ride?

Yes. A family member, caregiver, employer, healthcare provider, or other organization can arrange and pay for transportation on your behalf.

We need the passenger’s pickup and destination information, requested date and time, and a reliable way to contact the passenger when needed.

Medical Transportation

Can Road Runner pick me up when I’m discharged from the hospital?

Yes. Road Runner provides transportation following hospital and emergency department discharges during our regular service hours of 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, subject to availability.

Hospitals, family members, caregivers, or patients may text or call us to arrange transportation or check availability. For a genuine emergency discharge outside regular hours, the hospital or healthcare facility must contact Road Runner directly.

Can you take me to a medical appointment and wait for me?

Yes. When transportation includes a return trip, it is a core value at Road Runner to remain on-site and wait for our rider. Wait time is charged as part of that service.

We believe that if we commit to your return transportation, we should be there when you’re ready to go. If we’re asked to leave and take other rides while you’re at your appointment, we can no longer guarantee when—or if—we’ll be available for your return.

Leaving a rider without guaranteed return transportation simply isn’t how we operate.

Do you bill Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance?

No. Road Runner does not bill Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance directly.

Private-pay rides can be paid by Venmo, credit card, or debit card. We also provide transportation paid for by healthcare facilities, approved programs, community organizations, and other third parties.

If another organization will be paying for your transportation, please have them contact Road Runner directly to arrange the ride.

Can someone else arrange medical transportation for me?

Yes. A family member, caregiver, healthcare facility, case manager, social worker, or other authorized person may contact Road Runner to arrange transportation on your behalf.

We’ll need the rider’s pickup location, destination, appointment time, return-trip needs, and a reliable contact number for someone we can reach when the ride is arranged and throughout the service should we need to contact them.

Do you provide transportation for behavioral health and recovery services?

Absolutely. Behavioral health and recovery transportation is one of Road Runner’s core areas of service and something we care deeply about.

We provide private, respectful, and compassionate transportation for people accessing recovery, behavioral health, and treatment-related services. Our role is simple: support the person we’re transporting, treat them with dignity, and help them get where they need to be without judgment.

Transportation may be arranged by the rider or through an authorized healthcare facility, treatment program, or other organization.

Can Road Runner assist riders with mobility needs?

Road Runner provides ambulatory, hands-off transportation. All riders must be able to enter and exit the vehicle without assistance from the driver. For insurance reasons, our drivers are unable to physically assist or lift riders or enter a passenger’s residence.

Walkers, canes, and other mobility aids are welcome as long as they can be safely accommodated in the vehicle. If you need assistance getting to or from the vehicle, please arrange for someone to assist you at either end of your trip.

Do you provide shared medical rides with other patients?

No. Road Runner medical transportation is private transportation. We do not combine unrelated medical passengers into the same ride or make additional patient pickups along the way.

Your transportation is reserved for you and your trip, providing greater privacy, comfort, and confidentiality.

Can a family member, caregiver, or support person ride with me?

Yes. Family members, caregivers, and support persons are welcome, and we encourage having someone accompany you when it would be helpful.

Medical appointments and procedures can be stressful, and navigating a large or unfamiliar healthcare facility can sometimes be overwhelming. Having someone you know along for the trip can provide reassurance, assistance, and support before and after your appointment.

Road Runner will get you safely to your destination, but accompanying riders inside a facility or to an appointment is beyond the scope of our transportation service. If you may need that additional support, we encourage you to bring someone with you.

What if my medical appointment runs longer than expected?

We understand that medical appointments don’t always run on schedule. Road Runner will wait as planned for your return transportation, but significantly extended appointments may conflict with other rides already reserved.

If your appointment runs substantially beyond the expected time, we may need to leave for another scheduled ride and return when our schedule allows. Wait time is charged while we remain on-site.

Can Road Runner be my responsible adult following sedation or anesthesia?

No. Road Runner cannot serve as the responsible adult required by a hospital, surgical center, or medical provider following sedation, anesthesia, or certain procedures.

If your provider requires a responsible adult to accompany you at discharge or remain with you afterward, you must arrange for that person to travel with you. They are welcome to ride with you in the Road Runner vehicle.

This responsibility is outside the scope of our transportation service.

Hiker Shuttle

I’m a hiker. Where should I leave my vehicle?

Whenever possible, park your vehicle at what will be the end of your hike. Road Runner can meet you there and transport you to your starting trailhead.

This allows you to hike back to your own vehicle at your own pace, without worrying about finishing at a specific time to meet a scheduled pickup.

Why do you recommend a ride to the start of my hike instead of picking me up afterward?

Hiking times can be unpredictable. Weather, trail conditions, fatigue, or simply taking longer than expected can make it difficult to know exactly when you’ll finish.

By leaving your vehicle at the end and having Road Runner take you to the start, there’s no pickup time to miss or change—your vehicle is waiting for you when you finish.

Can Road Runner pick me up after my hike?

We strongly recommend against scheduling post-hike pickups. After years of providing hiker transportation, we’ve found that estimated finishing times rarely work out as planned.

A changing pickup time can conflict with other reserved rides and create unnecessary frustration for both the hiker and Road Runner. We value the relationship we’ve built with the hiking community too much to routinely put either of us in that position.

The most dependable option is simple: park at what will be the end of your hike and let Road Runner take you to the start.

How far in advance should I reserve a hiker shuttle?

We recommend reserving as soon as your hiking plans are reasonably firm, especially for weekends, holidays, and popular hiking dates.

Same-day requests are welcome when our schedule allows, but advance reservations give you the best chance of getting the pickup time you need.

Does Road Runner provide emergency or after-hours hiker transportation?

Road Runner does not provide emergency or after-hours on-call transportation for hikers. Hiker transportation must be arranged in advance.

Because hiking times and conditions can change unexpectedly, we strongly encourage hikers to plan transportation before beginning their hike and leave their vehicle at what will be the end of the hike whenever possible.

For a medical or trail emergency, please contact 911 or the appropriate emergency services.

Hours & Reservations

What are Road Runner’s regular hours?

Road Runner is open daily from 7:00 AM–7:00 PM.

Transportation outside regular hours is available 24/7 by advance reservation. If you need transportation before 7:00 AM or after 7:00 PM, please arrange it with us in advance.

How far in advance should I make a reservation?

Advance reservations are always encouraged, particularly when you need transportation at a specific time or for a longer trip.

The earlier you contact us, the better chance we have of reserving the time you need. Same-day requests are also welcome and will be accommodated when our schedule allows.

Is my reservation confirmed when I call or text?

No. Your reservation is not confirmed until payment has been received. Once payment is received, your requested transportation is placed on our schedule and that time is reserved for you.

Until payment is received, the date and time remain available to other customers.

Does Road Runner provide emergency transportation after hours?

Road Runner’s regular hours are 7:00 AM–7:00 PM daily, with transportation outside those hours available by advance reservation.

For a genuine after-hours emergency, we may respond to calls coming directly from a hospital or healthcare facility, law-enforcement agency, tow company, or other professional organization. After hours, calls from unidentified or individual callers may not be answered.

Emergency call-outs are subject to driver availability and will be significantly more expensive than a normally scheduled ride. After-hours emergency service does not include hiker transportation.

Payment, Changes & Cancellations

How can I pay for my ride?

Road Runner accepts Venmo, credit cards, and debit cards. All rides must be prepaid and are non-refundable.

If a healthcare facility, approved program, employer, or other organization will be paying for your transportation, please have them contact Road Runner directly to make the arrangements.

What happens if I need to cancel or change my reservation?

All rides must be prepaid and are non-refundable.

If you cancel at least 48 hours before your scheduled ride, you’ll receive a ride credit toward any Road Runner service for up to six months.

Cancellations within 48 hours receive no refund or ride credit. We’ll always do our best to accommodate requested date or time changes, but changes cannot be guaranteed. If we’re unable to accommodate the requested change because of other scheduled rides, no refund or ride credit will be issued.

For immediate rides, once Road Runner is on the way to you, no refund or ride credit is available.

Business & Employee Transportation

Can Road Runner provide transportation for employees or company events?

Yes. Road Runner provides transportation for employees, company events, business functions, and other work-related needs.

Employer-paid transportation must be arranged directly by the employer. When the ride is scheduled, we’ll confirm the employer’s instructions and any rules or limitations that apply.

Once the ride begins, Road Runner follows the employer’s instructions. Riders cannot add unauthorized stops, change destinations, or otherwise change the transportation arrangements without approval from the employer.

Can Road Runner provide recurring employee transportation?

Yes. Road Runner can work with employers to arrange regularly scheduled or recurring employee transportation, subject to availability.

Contact us with the schedule, pickup and destination information, number of riders, and how often transportation is needed, and we’ll determine whether we can accommodate it consistently.

General Questions

Should I call or text Road Runner?

Text is preferred. In the North Country, we often travel through areas with limited cell service where a text may still get through even when a phone call won’t.

If you text and don’t receive a response, please call. We may be on a ride and unable to safely respond to a text until we’re stopped.

Can someone under 18 ride alone with Road Runner?

For the safety and comfort of everyone involved, passengers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult. Road Runner does not provide transportation for unaccompanied minors.

Is my ride private and confidential?

Yes. What happens at Road Runner stays at Road Runner. We respect the privacy of every passenger and the reason for their transportation.

We do not discuss your ride, destination, circumstances, or conversations with other passengers or members of the community. Your business is your business.

What areas does Road Runner serve?

Road Runner is based in Lancaster, New Hampshire, providing local and long-distance transportation to or from Northern New Hampshire and the North Country, as well as longer trips throughout New England and beyond.

All ride rates are calculated from our Lancaster base, regardless of where your pickup location is.

How do I get a price for my ride?

Text or call Road Runner with your pickup location, destination, date, and requested pickup time. For round trips, please also let us know whether you’ll need us to wait.

We’ll provide your price before you reserve the ride, so you’ll know the cost before making payment.

How many passengers can Road Runner transport?

Our regular vehicle accommodates up to four passengers, and the ride price is the same whether we’re transporting one passenger or four.

Have a larger group? With enough advance notice, we may be able to accommodate larger groups as well. Contact us with the details and we’ll let you know what options are available.

Can I bring luggage or other belongings with me?

Yes. Luggage and personal belongings are welcome, provided they can be safely accommodated in the vehicle.

If you’ll be traveling with multiple or oversized bags, equipment, or other large items, please let us know when arranging your ride so we can make sure everything will fit.

What happens if bad weather affects my ride?

Safety comes first. Northern New Hampshire weather can change quickly, and snow, ice, poor road conditions, or other severe weather may affect travel times or, in rare cases, require a ride to be delayed or rescheduled.

Please allow extra travel time during poor weather, particularly for an appointment, flight, or other time-sensitive destination. Significant additional travel time caused by weather, traffic, road conditions, or other unexpected delays may result in an additional charge beyond your prepaid ride price.

Can I eat or drink in the vehicle?

Yes. Food and non-alcoholic drinks are welcome. We simply ask that you help us keep the vehicle clean and comfortable for the next rider.

We’re happy to dispose of your trash at the end of the ride—just leave it with us rather than leaving it behind in the vehicle.

Open alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the vehicle at any time.

Can I smoke or vape in the vehicle?

No. Smoking and vaping are not permitted in Road Runner vehicles. This helps us keep the vehicle clean and comfortable for every rider.

Are pets allowed in the vehicle?

Yes. We love pets and they’re welcome to ride with you. There is an additional $25 cleaning charge when traveling with a pet.

The next rider may have allergies, sensitivities, or simply may not be comfortable around animals, so the vehicle must be thoroughly cleaned before returning to passenger service.

Do I need to wear a seat belt?

Yes. Seat belts must be worn by all passengers while the vehicle is moving. Your safety is important to us, and we ask everyone riding with Road Runner to buckle up for the trip.

What if I leave something behind in the vehicle?

Please text or call us as soon as you realize an item may have been left behind. We’ll check the vehicle and let you know if we find it.

We’ll make reasonable arrangements to return found belongings, but we may not be able to return them immediately because of other scheduled rides. Road Runner cannot be responsible for personal items left in the vehicle.

When should I be ready for my pickup?

Please be ready to leave at your scheduled pickup time. Road Runner has built a strong reputation for arriving a few minutes early, and we ask our riders to be ready at the time they reserved.

A delay at one pickup can affect not only the next rider, but every scheduled ride that follows. If you’re not ready at your scheduled pickup time, we may need to leave to protect the rest of our schedule and reschedule your transportation based on availability.
